If mealtimes in your house feel more like a battlefield than a table, you already know how exhausting this is.

This toolbox pairs with the Feeding and Mealtimes Program in the Hub and gives you something practical to do right now. Every item inside has been chosen by our therapy team to help children aged 2-8 explore food in a way that feels safe, low-pressure and genuinely playful. The tableware set, food exploration cards, sensory play activities and food preparation tools work together to build comfort and curiosity around food gradually, without force or stress.

It won't replace specialist support if your child needs it. But it gives you a real starting point, and the tools to make mealtimes feel less like something you're all just trying to survive.

Suitable for ages 2-8. Adult supervision required.

WHO THE PROGRAM IS FOR

Does this sound familiar?

"My child only eats a few foods, they gag and turn away from new foods"

"Mealtimes can be super stressful and I don't want that experience for my child and family"

"I'm on a waiting list to see a specialist but need help and strategies to try in the interim."

If these challenges sound familiar, you are not alone – it’s exactly why we’ve designed this program.

Our OTs and Speech Therapists have designed a therapeutic program that helps children explore food in a low-pressure environment. It also helps parents understand the many reasons why children have feeding difficulties, and arms them with strategies and tools.

ABOUT THE VIDEO TRAINING

What the program covers

Feeding difficulties in children are a common and challenging aspect of child development that can be a source of concern for parents and caregivers. Challenges can include a reluctance to try new foods, a strong preference for certain types of food, and/or a limited range of accepted foods.

For many children, selective eating is a typical phase of childhood. However, some feeding difficulties extend beyond the typical phase and pose nutritional concerns, as well as significant mealtime stress.

This program supports children in their feeding and mealtime journeys through hands-on, play-filled activities. Developed by Senior OTs and a Speech Pathologist, it offers education, strategies and tools for children and parents. Children are invited to engage in sensory play, low-pressure food exploration, food creation and a wide range of activities to help build comfort and understanding around food.

This program also supports parents in a range of powerful ways. Through a series of evaluations, tools and checklists, parents can identify and understand the factors that could be contributing to their child’s feeding challenges. They’re offered a wide variety of strategies to understand their child’s unique needs and navigate their challenges.

The program does not replace the individualised expert intervention that may be required for some children. Instead, it helps parents identify the wide variety of professionals and other supports that may be available and necessary.
