Does this sound familiar?
"My child rarely persists at a task that they find difficult and they tend to avoid activities they can't 'get right' the first time."
"I find very few activities engage my child that donât involve a device, I'd love to reignite their creativity."
If these challenges sound familiar, you are not alone â itâs exactly why weâve designed this program.
What the program covers
Beyond fine motor skills, the activities in the program serve as a platform for fostering problem solving and cognitive development. Children will engage in planning, sequencing, executing steps and troubleshooting unexpected issues during each creation. When faced with challenges, the process of analysing problems, experimenting with solutions, and adapting approaches provides invaluable learning experiences that extend well beyond the immediate 3D printing pen activities.
Through the STEM: 3D Printing Pen Program, children will access a toolbox containing the 3D Printing Pen Kit, a Running Animals Kit and a Walking Robots Kit. The 3D Printing Pen Kit contains the 3D printing pen, three stencils and filament that can be used to gain familiarity with the pen, while the running animals and walking robots offer more complex stencils and small motors that can be used to create moving 3D objects.
To support children in completing this program at home, there is a series of online videos that have been created by an occupational therapist. These videos contain useful tips for using the 3D printing pen at home and instructional videos for each of the running animals and walking robots.
There is also a âhow to guideâ that provides an overview of the process of completing a stencil and a build. These instructions can be used as a general guide for planning, sequencing and executing all of the constructions. Please note, 3D printing pens require a certain amount of warmth to work effectively. Depending on your child's capacity, parental supervision may be required.
