Most teenagers will not engage with something that feels like a worksheet. Nanoblocks are a different story.

This toolbox pairs with the Nanoblock Program in the Hub and uses five intricate nanoblock builds as the vehicle for teaching 10-18 year olds one of the most important executive functioning skills they can learn: how to plan backwards. The 'get ready, do, done' method, workbook, magnetic planner, visual sand timers, fidget spinner and tweezers all work together as a practical system for understanding time, sequencing steps and actually finishing what you start.

The nanoblock builds are the hook. The planning skills are the point. Our therapy team designed it this way deliberately, so young people who would switch off in a second if it felt like therapy will actually sit down, engage and build something they're proud of.

Suitable for ages 10-18.

WHO THE PROGRAM IS FOR

Does this sound familiar?

"My teenager needs help working out how to plan and organise themselves and their time, but won't be interested in therapy that feels like homework."

"My child regularly misses deadlines at school because they struggle to manage their time and understand what is required from them in a task."

"My child struggles to understand the concept of time and what it ‘feels like’ to have a certain passage of time pass, which makes it hard to meet deadlines."

If these challenges sound familiar, you are not alone, – it’s exactly why we’ve designed this program.

ABOUT THE VIDEO TRAINING

What the program covers

The Therapy at Home nanoblock Program aims to develop skills and confidence for using the ‘get ready, do, done’ planning method. This method provides a structure for learning how to ‘plan backwards.’ It starts with a forward focus to clearly identify what it will look to be ‘done’ and to ‘get done’ with a task and then works backwards to identify all of the steps and processes that you need to ‘do’ and ‘get ready’ in order to complete the task.

The program will be delivered using The Play Way’s nanoblock Workbook. It provides a detailed breakdown of how to use the planner and contains space to apply this to five different projects. Initially, these projects relate to the nanoblock constructions in order to build an understanding of the method with fun and engaging tasks. From there, the projects move to real-life scenarios in order to gain confidence and independence with using this method for day-to-day planning and organisation.

In addition to developing skills for planning and organisation, the program provides opportunities to experiment with different strategies and tools for focusing attention, organising thoughts and ideas and managing time. Tools such as visual timers, a fidget spinner, ‘get ready, do, done’ magnetic planner and post-it notes are provided for use alongside the workbook to further explore, develop and refine executive functioning skills.
