When your child is overwhelmed and you're out of ideas, knowing what to reach for shouldn't be another thing you have to figure out on your own.

This toolbox pairs with the Regulation: Discovering Your Calm Program in the Hub and gives children something tangible to explore when the feelings get big. The pre-loaded MP3 player with 11 meditation tracks and songs means regulation support is genuinely portable, while the vibrating cushion, wooden fidget, squishy ball and Curvd earplugs each target a different sense so children can discover what actually works for their body rather than being handed a one-size-fits-all solution. The Buzzing Bees in My Brain storybook opens up the conversation about overwhelm in a way that doesn't feel clinical, and the Regulation Tracker and reflection cards help children and parents start to see patterns over time.

Suitable for ages 4-16.

WHAT'S INSIDE

What's in this play kit

A full kit of play-tools, curated to work together.
MP3 player

MP3 player

Loaded with eleven meditation tracks and songs, so your child has something calming they can put on themselves without borrowing anyone's phone. It works with any headphones you already have, or a speaker, and there are two short videos showing you how to load their own music onto it, so the songs that settle your child are the ones on there. Headphones are not included.
Vibrating cushion

Vibrating cushion

A soft corduroy cushion that vibrates, for the kind of deep, steady pressure that helps many children settle. We love how many ways it gets used: held against their chest, tucked up near an ear, sat on, or cuddled while they lie down. Battery is included.
Curvd earplugs, tips and case

Curvd earplugs, tips and case

Everyday earplugs that take the edge off noise while your child can still hear the room, with four tip sizes so they can work out which ones feel right in their own ears. They put them in themselves, which is deliberate, because they are the only one who can tell when the fit is comfortable. The case and clip mean the earplugs can live in a school bag.
The Buzzing Bees in My Brain

The Buzzing Bees in My Brain

A picture book written by a ten year old, describing what overwhelm feels like from the inside: bees in their brain that get louder and louder until they want to put their hands over their ears. Reading it together often gives a child a way to describe their own version of it, and gives you a way to hear it.
Squishy ball

Squishy ball

A firm gel ball that takes real squeezing. It sits in one fist, so your child can use it at a desk or in the car without the whole room noticing.
Wooden fidget set

Wooden fidget set

Three timber pieces: a ridged roller, a round palm disc, and a linked fidget that flips over on itself. We chose timber over plastic because the wood itself is calming to hold, and because it stays plain rather than bright and loud.
Reflection cards

Reflection cards

One card per tool, filled in after they’ve explored it. Your child rates how well it worked and how they felt, marks whether it belongs at home, at school or out in the community, and says whether they would use it again. A how-to card in the set shows them how to fill one in.
Regulation Tracker

Regulation Tracker

A booklet and a chart for marking where their energy sat across the day: too high, just right, or too low. Filled in over a week or two it starts to show which parts of the day are hardest, so you are both working from something you can see rather than from memory.
Parent Guide

Parent Guide

A short guide for you (the adult), covering what each tool is for and how to introduce it.

Why we built it this way

Built from lived experience

Built from lived experience

The book in this box was written by a ten year old, describing what overwhelm feels like and what helps when it hits: a quiet dark spot, less noise, something to hold, something to listen to. The tools were curated around that list, so every one of them is in here for your child to try and then keep or put back.
Set the spot up on a good day

Set the spot up on a good day

The time to build a calm spot is when your child is happy and settled, not when they are already overwhelmed. Sit down together and choose what goes in it, the cushion, the earplugs, the music, the ball. Then when the hard moment comes there is somewhere to go, and they already know what is waiting in it.
So they can tell you what worked

So they can tell you what worked

The reflection cards ask your child which tool helped, how it helped, and where they would use it again. Answering those is how many children shift from being handed something to calm down with, to being able to ask for what they need in a given moment.

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PLAY KIT

The videos that come with it

Everything in the kit can be used as soon as it arrives, so your child can open it and start trying things straight away. When you want the reasoning behind it, there is about an hour and a half of video in the Hub. What overwhelm is doing in a child's body, how to work out what sets your child off, why co-regulating comes before asking a child to manage on their own, and a walk through of every tool in the box. We'll send your invitation to access it all when your kit ships.

WHO THIS PLAY KIT IS FOR

If overwhelm looks like this

  • They are shut down by the time they get home, and there is nothing left in the tank by bedtime.
  • Some places are just too much for them, and I want to understand what to change.
  • I want them to work out what helps them, and to be able to ask for it.
If any of that sounds like your house, this is who we built the play kit for.

Who made this

Kait is an OT. She has been working with children and families for nearly 20 years, and she has four kids of her own. She built this play kit around a book a ten year old wrote about what overwhelm feels like, and about the quiet dark spot that helps when everything gets loud. The tools in the box were curated from what that book describes, so any child can try them and explore what works for them. The reflection cards and the Regulation Tracker were developed by Kait and her team, alongside the videos, so a child has a way to record what helped and hand that to the adults around them rather than carrying it on their own.
