Parent Guide

Parent Guide

A short guide for you (the adult), covering the thinking behind each of the five projects, tips for each one, and the mindfulness script that closes every activity, so you can read it out to them if they want you to.

Why we built it this way

Sometimes things go wrong. That's part of making.

Sometimes things go wrong. That's part of making.

Every project is filmed by our team on camera, from start to finish, including the bits that don't go to plan. If a circle ends up in the wrong place or the clay doesn't roll quite the way it was supposed to. Instead of editing those moments out, we leave them in. Your child gets to see that making something doesn't mean getting everything right the first time. You can change it. Try again. Keep going.
The kind of activity they can get lost in

The kind of activity they can get lost in

There's something about making something with your hands. And adding a mindfulness element to their creativity makes these projects even more layered. The colours. The patterns. The little decisions about what comes next. The projects are designed to build in enough steps and detail to keep curious minds engaged giving your child the chance to slow down, focus on what they're doing and become completely absorbed in the process. No rushing to the finish. Just time to make and be mindful.
Something they can be proud of

Something they can be proud of

These aren't activities that disappear when the session is over. Your child finishes each project with something they've made themselves; a painted mandala, a clay pot, a piece of artwork they can hold up and say, “I made this.” They've made the choices. They've solved the little problems. They've stuck with it when it didn't look quite right. And at the end, there's something real to show for all that effort. A little masterpiece. And a pretty big sense of “I did that myself.”

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PLAY KIT

The videos that come with it

There is over two hours of video that guide your child through the creative activities step-by-step. Most activities open with what it is for and what to get out, then the steps of moving through the project, then packing up, and they close with a mindfulness moment your child can watch or just listen to. We'll send your invitation to access it all when your kit ships.

WHO THIS PLAY KIT IS FOR

If this sounds like your child

  • They need something to immerse themselves in that’s not a screen.
  • I really want them to be able to focus on something for more than 2 minutes.
  • They are interested in creativity but I’m not arty so it would be great to be able to be guided through something we could do together
this is who we built the play kit for.

Who made this

Kait is an OT. She has been working with children and families for nearly 20 years, and she has four kids of her own. She built this play kit as a way to engage older children in meaningful activities that build important skills like creativity, mindfulness, fine motor and executive function. She wanted something that felt like art, but underneath was working on developmental foundations. Our therapy team created all the instruction cards, the templates and the guide, and filmed all five projects. Every activity is guided step-by-step through the hands on process and then closes with a mindfulness moment.
