Does this sound familiar?
"My child focuses so much better when fidgeting, but the school is implementing whole body listening in the classroom. They can't focus without moving."
"My child's stims and self soothing practices are affecting the learning of others, which can mean their tools are removed without alternatives."
If these challenges sound familiar, you are not alone. Itâs exactly why weâve designed this program.
What the program covers
The toolbox also contains a Reflection Card Set to foster a proactive approach to managing individual sensory needs and to encourage children to actively engage in self-monitoring and enhance their self-awareness. The reflection cards prompt children to assess and record their emotional state, concentration levels and learning preferences, and to consider the needs of others in the shared learning space.
By regularly engaging in this reflective practice, children are supported to develop a deeper understanding of their own needs, empowering them to take a proactive role in managing and communicating their sensory experiences.
To further support children in the learning environment, there is a Teacher Information Pamphlet that can be provided to educators for further insights on the use of these tools within the classroom setting. There is also a student handout containing essential information for children about how to choose and use fidget tools in the classroom.
The ultimate goal is to enhance childrenâs overall learning experience â academically, emotionally and socially. The toolbox serves as a tangible and practical means to promote self-awareness, self-advocacy and a positive approach to learning within a group learning environment.
